This post is about a cute little project a new parent can never have enough of: bibs and burp cloths! I had this project in mind but could not find the right yarn and the right colors until I went to a needle store overseas and found Scheepjes Larra mercerized cotton yarn. This is my own opinion, I just like the yarn but I do not get paid for writing this. The yarn comes in many different colors. Here is a picture of all the skeins together:
This picture already makes you happy, right? I loved all the colors together and I started immediately with a few granny squares but that project is going to take a while. For fun I decided to design a small baby project. This would be a great gift for new moms and baby showers.
Crochet Needle 2.5 – 3 mm
Pink, lime and yellow fine cotton yarn.
Finished baby bib is 10″ x 10″
Row 1: Ch loosely 46, ch 3 (your first dc), turn, 1 dc in each ch, ch 3 and turn
Row 2: dc till end, change to lime color, ch 3 and turn
Row 3: crochet following chart (see bottom page), dc 3 in lime green, dc 1 in pink
Row 4, 5 see chart
Row 6: background color changes to pink, follow chart
Crochet until work measures about 9″, begin sloping at neck, working on one side only:
dc 16, turn, (decrease make one sl st), dc 15, turn, dc 14 and break thread. Repeat this step for opposite site.
Row 1: sc around entire bib in lime
Row 2: picot edging in yellow: ch 5, sl st in 3 ch from hook, sk 2 sc, sc in next, ch 5 sl st in 3 ch from hook etc.
For the strap Ch 3 ropes (one in each color) about 50″ in length. Braid the three ropes together.
