Baby bib crochet pattern

This post is about a cute little project a new parent can never have enough of:  bibs and burp cloths!  I had this project in mind but could not find the right yarn and the right colors until I went to a needle store overseas and found Scheepjes Larra mercerized cotton yarn. This is my own opinion, I just like the yarn but I do not get paid for writing this.   The yarn comes in many different colors.  Here is a picture of all the skeins together:

This picture already makes you happy, right?  I loved all the colors together and I started immediately with a few granny squares but that project is going to take a while.  For fun I decided to design a small baby project.  This would be a  great gift for new moms and baby showers.

MATERIALS:

Crochet Needle 2.5 – 3 mm

Pink, lime and yellow fine cotton yarn.

NOTES:

Finished baby bib is 10″ x 10″

INSTRUCTIONS:

Row 1:   Ch loosely 46, ch 3 (your first dc), turn, 1 dc in each ch, ch 3 and turn

Row 2:   dc till end,  change to lime color, ch 3 and turn

Row 3: crochet following chart (see bottom page), dc 3 in lime green, dc 1 in pink

Row 4, 5 see chart

Row 6: background color changes to pink, follow chart

Crochet until work measures about 9″, begin sloping at neck, working on one side only:

dc 16, turn, (decrease make one sl st), dc 15, turn, dc 14 and break thread. Repeat this step for opposite site.

EDGING:

Row 1: sc around entire bib in lime

Row 2: picot edging in yellow:  ch 5, sl st in 3 ch from hook, sk 2 sc, sc in next, ch 5 sl st in 3 ch from hook etc.

For the strap Ch 3 ropes (one in each color) about 50″ in length.  Braid the three ropes together.
