Burlap pillow with doily

It is no secret that I love doilies.  Love to make them and love to use them around the house.  There is just something special about doilies, I think it is nostalgia.   To get you started here are some inspirational pictures:

How about a fun flowery fabric for your pillow?

You do not have to attach your doily in the middle:

To be honest, I think they all look great.  It is not difficult to make, even if you are not good at sewing you can purchase a ready made burlap case (think etsy).  I am not good with a sewing machine but my sister is, so I asked her to make one for me.  You know, when you visit your local fabric store you will be amazed at the choices in burlap.  Loved the ones with images from “Paris” like the Eiffel Tower, or you can choose a colored burlap.  How about a denim or red shade?  It took some time but now I am hooked on burlap.  And I am hooked on doilies.  You have heard this story before but there are plenty of vintage doilies.  Any thrift store has a bunch, and most of them are made from cotton.  So you can basically color them with fabric dye any shade you want.

I still had a couple of  “self made” doilies in my closet and it was the perfect size for a pillow case.  I basically stitched the doily with a few overhand stitches to the burlap and I attached a fun stone button in the middle.  Love my new pillow and I will make more.

At this time I am finishing up a very nice corner cabinet for one of my dear customers, which I will talk about in my next post.

At the same time I am slowly packing my suitcase.   I am going to HOLLAND for a well deserved vacation.  I am really looking forward seeing all my family and at the same time I will keep my readers up to date with the new trends in Holland.  The Dutch are really edgy with their craft work, for me it is very inspirational.  I will also bring something fun from Holland as a giveaway when I return to the US.   Big thank you to all my followers …I have been writing my blog for one whole year now.   We will stay in touch.
