My next painting project took a few weeks to finish – I simply could not decide what to do with the drawers! Last year I purchased a three drawer dresser, very heavy but functional. I painted a similar one last year in brown with green distressed drawers. Here is a picture AFTER stripping several layers of stain…yuk!
As you can see this dresser is made to last! But…I did have some issues with the drawers and after I put some new stain it just did not look right to me. Maybe this look is fine for some, but I just liked a different look.
Well, I still had some sample paints from Sherwin Williams…
I choose Wild Current for this dresser and I never looked back! At first I painted the entire dresser Red and then it just sat there..for weeks. You know, let me tell you another story: I truly love my bright paint colors but I have to admit I also enjoy colors that fool the eye. By coincidence I picked up a copy of BH&G and in an article about “color in the home” a designer stated that she “loved” the mystery of some colors. let me tell you about “Hush” from Benjamin Moore. I actually purchased a can at the Restore thinking it was just another can of beige, well, when I opened the can and started painting it actually fools the eye! At first you will see a pale beige and all of a sudden you see green..unbelievable! I love the mystery of this color and I knew it would go great with my “wild current” red. To make a long story short: I candle waxed the drawers and gave them two coats of Hush by Benjamin Moore. After it dried for about 2 days I used a very fine grit sand paper and lightly sanded the corners. This color is almost impossible to capture, but you just have to believe me: it is gorgeous!
Do you spot a hint of green?
I finished the dresser by giving it two coats of wipe-on polyurethane. The lovely porcelain knobs were purchased at eBay.
