Crocheted covered stones

Yes, I am a practical person so when I noticed an article about crocheted covered stones I thought: Boy, who has the need for that?  But…a couple of days ago I found some DMC cebelia in my yarn stash and I kept thinking about those crocheted stones.  Maybe for decoration…let’s see how it goes.   There is  actually a pattern at Purlbee.com but I did not try that out myself.  By coincidence I found bags with nice smooth stones at the dollar store, but they are a bit on the small side.  Maybe your local yard center has the bigger ones?

Well, I made three of them and yes I have to admit: it is addictive!  Those little ones are really fun to make and real fun to look at.  I think there are several ways of making them:

1)  you can make your own crochet pattern, or use  a covered stone pattern

2) buy a small crocheted doily at the thrift store and cover the stone with that

3) I actually used the first 4 rows of an existing doily pattern to make mine, that works too.

Here are all three
